March Lake Lanier Fishing Report

Time for a quick report on the March bite on Lake Lanier!  I have made it out several times this week after both crappie and bass.  The bite is slow for March but is improving daily!  Spring has sprung and the fishing is about to be on fire!  Winds have made fishing from the kayak difficult this week which makes choosing your launch location critical to catching fish!

I bass fished today and landed one nice one with several more coming unbuttoned.  My go to spring jig head worm combo produced!  The above fish bit out in front of a deep dock on the south end of the lake.  I could not get a shallow bite but that doesn't mean that they weren't there.  Look for the spots to move shallower as the weather warms and they get ready to spawn.

The crappie bite on the north end was slow for me this week.  My bites all came in the afternoon after the sun came up!  Shaded docks in 15ft of water produced and like the spots I did not get any shallow bites yet, typically this time of year I catch crappie around blowdowns as they prep for the spawn.  1/32 oz jig/grub combo in bright colors as well as the electric chicken Bobby Garland jigs produced.

The weather is great and the fishing will keep getting better and better!  Get out there in the yak and catch some fish!
